Prior to the development of the Fortisia mobile application, unions had access to very few technology solutions truly tailored to their communication and member management needs. Most available tools were fragmented, inflexible, and poorly aligned with today’s digital expectations. This resulted in inefficient processes and scattered information—for union leadership teams as well as for members.

Recognizing this gap, Fortisia initiated the development of a mobile application designed specifically for the union environment. The goal was to centralize communications, strengthen member engagement, and simplify access to official union information.

With Fortisia, unions can:

  • Communicate effectively with all members through direct messaging, a centralized news feed, and push notifications.

  • Drive greater engagement and participation in union events and activities.

  • Provide instant access to key information through an AI-powered conversational agent.

  • Deliver a secure digital membership card and member profile accessible via QR code.

Overcoming Technical Challenges in the Development of the Mobile Application

Developing the Fortisia mobile application involved addressing several foundational technical challenges aligned with its ambition to become a scalable, enterprise-grade union platform. The solution needed to simultaneously support a high volume of users, enable deep organizational customization, and integrate an intelligent conversational agent capable of delivering accurate, reliable, and contextualized responses.

Advanced Customization and White-Label Architecture

One of the primary challenges was delivering a high level of customization without creating multiple codebases. Each union needed to tailor the application to its own visual identity—including branding, colors, and logos—while maintaining a seamless, high-performance user experience.

In addition, the solution was designed as a white-label mobile application, allowing each client to have its own branded app published independently on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. This requirement introduced significant architectural complexity, including multi-application management, automated deployment pipelines, and compliance with platform-specific requirements for both iOS and Android environments.

Integration of a Context-Aware Conversational Agent

Another key challenge was the integration of a contextual AI-powered conversational agent. The chatbot needed to accurately interpret and respond to members’ questions while taking into account each union’s specific collective agreements and documentation.

Meeting this requirement demanded structured data modeling, advanced contextualization of responses, and the implementation of reliable artificial intelligence technologies—all while adhering to strict security and confidentiality standards.

Mobile Application Development for High Performance and Seamless Scalability

Finally, the platform had to support periods of intensive usage, particularly during major communications or significant union events. From the outset, the mobile application was therefore designed with scalability, resilience, and monitoring mechanisms in place to handle traffic spikes while maintaining a stable and seamless user experience.

The Solution: A Robust and Scalable Mobile Application

To address these challenges, Uzinakod designed Fortisia as a robust, scalable mobile application built for large-scale deployment. Available on both iOS and Android, the solution is delivered as a white-label platform, enabling each union to offer a fully branded application while leveraging a shared, high-performance and secure technological foundation.

Fortisia centralizes communications, documents, and member interactions within a single digital environment, significantly reducing tool fragmentation and streamlining day-to-day operations. Particular attention was given to the user experience (UX), ensuring intuitive, consistent, and accessible navigation, regardless of members’ level of digital proficiency.

From a technological standpoint, the platform is built on a secure cloud infrastructure hosted in Canada, primarily leveraging Microsoft Azure. This approach ensures data sovereignty and adherence to industry-leading cybersecurity best practices. The architecture provides high availability, elastic scalability, and consistent performance, even during peak usage periods.

The integration of artificial intelligence enables unions to make information instantly accessible through an intelligent conversational agent, enhancing communication efficiency and member engagement. Push notifications, surveys, and online voting capabilities further enrich the ecosystem, contributing to the long-term modernization of union operations.
